Sony Ericsson today announced the C901 GreenHeart , a greener phone that has style in it as well, its a candybar phone made for users seeking a more sustainable lifestyle. The C901 GreenHeart's phone casing is made with 50 percent recycled plastics and includes an optimized light sensor to cut down on energy consumption.
It's packed with features, too. The phone has a five megapixel camera with a Xenon flash and Sony Ericsson's suite of photography tools. It includes Sony Ericsson's media player, and it provides access to the Web and a variety of messaging options. Bluetooth is onboard as well.
GreenHeart products will eliminate the use of hazardous chemicals in production, reduce paper consumption and use smaller packaging. Each GreenHeart product will include an in-phone HTML-based user guide that eliminates the need for a printed manual. GreenHeart products also ship with 5 star energy efficient chargers that draw less than 30 milliwatts of power when idle.
Sony Ericsson expects GreenHeart technology to trickle down to its other handset products over time, and it expects the change to reduce company CO2 emissions by 20 percent by 2015 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions released during its production process by 15 percent in the same time period.
The C901 GreenHeart ships with the MH300 GreenHeart headset, which users 100 percent recycled plastics in most of its plastic parts. The C901 also features WalkMate application, which lets users compare the steps they take with car use.
The C901 GreenHeart will be available in EU in the second quarter.
